105th anniversary of Maj. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois’ first flight

Col. David S. Drichta, 12th Operations Group commander, addresses the crowd during an annual ceremony held at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston parade grounds March 2. The event was held in recognition of the 105th anniversary of Maj. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois’ first flight which took place at then Fort Sam Houston. The celebration honored signal corps pilot, Foulois, who made his first take-off, solo flight, landing and first crash after four flights with the “Wright ‘B’ Flyer” aircraft over the Fort Sam Houston parade ground which has since been named the MacArthur Parade Field.
